Have you ever wished you wanted to have a unique way to indicate when a specific WhatsApp contact messages? For instance, you could want to feel informed right away when a family member messages you, or be advised of an important update from a business associate. Personalized notification tones for WhatsApp can be very helpful in these situations.

Using the built-in settings on your phone, you can easily set a unique notification tone for specific WhatsApp contacts. Here's how to do it:

First, you'll need to open the WhatsApp settings on your phone. This is typically done by pressing the few dots at the top-right corner of the WhatsApp screen and tapping on the 'Settings' option. In the settings menu, scroll down to the 'Alerts' section.

Next, tap on the notification settings for WhatsApp. On Android devices, you'll find this option under the 'Advanced' menu. On iOS devices, you'll need to navigate to the 'Notifications' menu.

Once you're in the WhatsApp notification settings, tap on the 'Notification tone' option. You may be asked to choose the type of tone you want to use: a predefined tone from your phone or a custom ringtone of your choice.

To select a custom tone, choose the 'Ringtone' option from the top-right corner of the screen, then select the ringtone you want to use. If you don't have a ringtone in mind, you can use the default options or choose a song from your phone's music library.

Now that you've selected your custom tone, it's time to give it to a specific contact. Here's the hack: on Android devices, you can rename the WhatsApp contact by editing their name in the chat list, inserting a comma followed by a number. For example, 'John,5'. This is a placeholder that lets you link a custom ringtone based on the contact's digital ID.

On iOS devices, you will not be able to assign different tones per contact, but you can instead edit tones by contact name. For example, you could rename a contact with the digit associated. This would allow for future workarounds.

Now that you've assigned your custom tone to your contact, you're almost done. Simply save the changes to the WhatsApp settings, then exit the app and wait for the new tone to be assigned to your chosen contact.

To test your custom notification tone, send a message to the contact you've given the tone to and listen for the new ringtone. On Android devices, you may also see the custom tone displayed next to the contact's name in the chat list.
